Fonts for
Native Flutes
and Fujaras
Osiyo,

I have been asked to
pass this on to flute
makers and players. I
think this is a
wonderful tool to help
people learn to play
the Native American
Flute. I hope it will be
of use to you.

Many Blessings,
David Crazy Coyote

Dave -

I am writing to Native
Flute folks who may
be interested in a new
set of
fonts I've made
available. The fonts
contain finger
diagrams for Native
Flutes
(and fujaras) and are
useful if you are
creating
transcriptions of music
for flutes.

The fonts are freely
distributable, and can
be used on any
system that can
display TrueType
fonts such as
Microsoft Word,
Finale, Sibelius,
PrintMusic,
etc.

They are on a web
site at:

http://www.NAFTracks.
com/fonts.htm

If you have any
questions or
suggestions, just drop
me a line.

Flute Haven August Dates
Dave -

Just a quick note that the dates for this year's Flute Haven Native Flute School are set.
We're running three programs this year - A three-day weekend program (Fri-Sun Aug
20-22), a Five-Day program (Wed-Sun Aug 18-22) and the Facilitator Training Program
(Mon-Sun Aug 16-22).

We've reserved an *awesome* location at the Stony Point Retreat Center in Stony Point,
NY. The property is 32 acres, with all lodging a few steps away from the workshops and
dining hall.

All info is on the web site:

http://www.NativeFluteSchool.com

Vera and I are joined by music facilitation pros Eric and Lynn Miller and world
percussionist Ron Kravitz.

So carve out some vacation time for yourself. Learn new techniques on the Native
American flute, deepen the connection with your music, and jam with us ...

Hope you can join us!

We now have
updates available on
our website.
What IS the Flute Haven Native Flute School all about?
Dave -

After the recent article in Voice of the Wind, Vera and I have been getting a slew of emails asking ... "What
exactly IS Flute Haven?"

In short: it's a retreat centered on *playing* the Native American Flute, for all levels of players in a supportive
environment. Its a learning-centered environment with days full of workshops, playing, and jamming with other
instruments.

If you want a festival with shage shows and booths with vendors, this event is probably not for you. But if you
want to learn to play *your* flute better, and learning to play with other flutes as well as percussion, voice,
guitar and piano, then carve out some vacation time for yourself. Learn new techniques on the Native American
flute, deepen the connection with your music, and jam with us ...

You can join us for:

* a three-day program (Fri-Sun Aug 20-22),

* five days (Wed-Sun Aug 18-22), or

* the full-week (Mon-Sun Aug 16-22) which includes training to facilitiate
NAF gatherings such as flute circles.

We had a group of 40 participants and five facilitators at last year's
event, and people loved it. For a review of last year's event:

P.S. A great quote that I just came across, from Orpingalik, an Eskimo shaman whom the Danish explorer, Knud
Rasmussen, first encountered as he neared Pelly Bay in 1923:

"Songs are thoughts, sung out with the breath when people are moved by great forces and ordinary speech no
longer suffices.

There are so many occasions in one's life when a joy or a sorrow is felt in such a way that the desire comes to
sing. All my being is songs, and I sing as I draw breath."
